D. MENDELL, III, ELECTED PRESIDENT OF EXXON PRODUCTION RESEARCH COMPANY

 IRVING, Texas, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Exxon Corporation announced today the anticipated election of Dan Mendell, III, as president of Exxon Production Research Company effective November 1. He will succeed Fred M. Perkins who will reach mandatory retirement age on November 1 after more than 41 years of service with the company. Mr. Mendell also has been appointed to succeed Mr. Perkins as president of Exxon Upstream Technical Computing Company.
 Mr. Mendell joined the Production Department of Exxon USA in 1961 as a drilling engineer in New Orleans. After holding a variety of engineering and planning assignments in Louisiana and Texas, he was named reservoir engineer in the Southeastern Division in 1971. Mr. Mendell became coordinator of research and analysis in the Exxon USA Public Affairs Department in Houston in 1973. He returned to Exxon USA's Production Department and held several operating management assignments before being named manager of the Southwestern Production Division in Midland, Texas, in 1980. He became operations manager in Exxon USA's Production Department in 1988 and was appointed vice president of the Production Department in 1989.
 Mr. Mendell is a member of the American Petroleum Institute's Production Operating Committee, the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association Executive Committee and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. A native of Houston, Mr. Mendell is a graduate of the University of Texas with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering.
 Mr. Perkins joined Exxon USA's production research division in 1952 as an engineer. After a variety of production and engineering assignments in Houston, New York and Louisiana, he was named deputy managing director of Exxon's Australian affiliate in 1970. After returning to the U.S. in 1972 he held a series of management positions in Exxon USA, before being appointed vice president of Exxon Corporation's Gas Department in 1980. He was named vice president of the Producing Department in 1985. Mr. Perkins was elected president of Exxon Production Research Company in 1986.
 A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Mr. Perkins holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Florida.
