The D-Day Museum in Portsmouth will reopen in the spring after a PS4.9million refurbishment.

Spaces for learning, events and displays will be created, and the words and perspectives of the people who took part on both sides will be highlighted. It's Britain's only museum dedicated solely to covering all aspects of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944.

Exhibits include the Overlord Embroidery, which was made by the Royal School of Needlework in 1968 and tells the story of Operation Overlord - the code name for the Allied invasion - and at 272ft is 33ft longer than the Bayeux tapestry. ddaymuseum.co.uk
