Cyclying: Devlins welcome class act; CYCLE SPEEDWAY.
Regarded as the greatest ever rider, Leicester-based Hemsley is a three-times world champion and his decision to come to Coventry is a surprise but a massive boost for the club, especially as the 2006 season swings into action this weekend.
The 36-year-old, who has also been British champion a record five times, will officially sign next week and his brilliant all-round ability, dedication and experience will ensure Coventry will track the best ever team to represent the city in cycle speedway.
Hemsley said: "Joining emerging Coventry is the perfect way to finish my career. The club's superb staging of the 2005 British final, the best promotional event Fve seen, proved the club were on the verge of big things.
"I want another challenge to recapture the British title I last won in 2003 and as a fully qualified cycling coach I would like to help Coventry's abundance of junior talent reach their full potential."
Coventry chairman Gary Pointer added: "We are delighted with Dave's signing. He is true superstar and proves we are on the verge of joining the elite of cycle speedway's top clubs."
