Cycling death offence to be brought in.

A NEW offence of "causing death by dangerous cycling" is set to be recommended by the UK Government.

The move follows the death of Scot Kim Briggs, 44, who was knocked over and killed as a cyclist sped through east London on a bike with no front brakes.

Charlie Alliston, 18, was jailed for 18 months in September over her death. It is understood the new offence would also apply in Scotland.

The death of mum-of-two Kim, originally from Glasgow, sparked a campaign by her husband Matthew for the law to be changed.

Last September, it was revealed MPs were considering introducing the new offence for cyclists who kill pedestrians.

The review is expected to recommend the new offence, which would carry the same penalties as causing death by dangerous driving.
