Cut the clutter! We give this tidy, bright new bedroom an A+.

WHO SAYS BEING ORGANIZED HAS TO BE DULL?

Kendall, 12, hasn't always been known to her friends as the tidiest girl you've ever met. Her new school-year resolution? A place for everything and everything in its place. Our solution? Send her GL's favorite bedroom makeover expert and interior designer Lane Oliver (check out her DVD at digsagogo.com).

A BRIGHT IDEA

Kendall was tired of the boring basics and wanted Lane to bring in bright hues and other exhilarating elements that would better express her personality. The other challenge? Help Kendall clean up her disaster of a room while giving her crib a fun, cool look--all without the unfun high-end designer price tag.

They thumbed through catalogs, like PBteen, placing orders for bedding and lighting, then decided to hit some stores for details. During their shopping spree, Lane came across beaded flower-shaped placemats. Placemats? Yep, with just a few finishing nails, the placemats added wow to the walls for next to nothing.

THE HANG OF IT

It was important to Kendall to have a hang-out space for friends. She and Lane got rid of her queen-sized bed and pushed two twin beds into an L shape in the corner against the walls like a sectional sofa. The beds provide lots of seating, as well as an extra guest bed when Kendall has friends sleep over.

Next, Lane added a snazzy striped throw rug and ottoman from Target. "The ottoman serves a double purpose," says Lane, "It can be used as an extra seat or as a table." Smart.

NO BETTER TIME TO TIDY UP

With back-to-school around the corner, Kendall needed a way to organize and store all her stuff. Her old room was dark and dreary with little light for reading and studying. Kendall's craft projects took over the floor, while papers and textbooks flooded the desk.

Lane and Kendall found some great options for getting organized. Low-height baskets from PBteen are perfect for under-the-bed storage. A PBteen locker-look magazine rack is perfect for stashing textbooks and schoolwork (and GL). PBteen locker bins turned out to be just the right size for lining up on an existing bookshelf--and made a decorative hideaway for Kendall's art supplies. The best part? It all packs more color and punch into the room.

THE STUDY SPOT

Lane picked up some great organization items from Target to help get a handle on Kendall's desk clutter: a desk set with a pen-and-pencil holder, mini bins for nail polish and jewelry, and a green flower-shaped wastebasket. Kendall picked up some lime-green wrapping paper to wrap her bulletin board (and got some funky flower-y pushpins) so it stands out with the rest of her room's new electrifying colors. Fabulous!

READING RAINBOW

To create a special reading corner for herself, Kendall placed the bookshelf against the back of her desk and threw in a great new chair from Target for relaxing with her latest GL. A red-and-pink beaded curtain from shopwildthings.com separates the shelf and desk.

And, of course, a girl needs adequate lighting to better read her GL. The PBteen polka-dotted floor lamp adds sparkle with its sequined shade, and an adorable PBteen table lamp with colored glass base and beaded shade provide extra illumination from the top of the shelf.

GIVEAWAY! COME TO THE LIGHT

To illuminate her chill/hangout space, Kendall hung a frosted acrylic Shimmer Chandelier ($49, pbteen.com) in the corner above her beds. (The chandelier doubles as a gentle wind chime when a breeze hits.) And we've got five free chandeliers, right here!
