Cut it out Alan, you're no criminal...
He legged it from a Birmingham B&Q store with one of his lifesize cutouts.
The presenter was following in the footsteps of some of his biggest fans who've been stealing the boards to put in their homes and gardens.
Alan, who was at the Erdington branch of the DIY store signing copies of his latest series of books on gardening, couldn't help himself when he saw one that wasn't nailed down.
He laughed: "I couldn't believe when I heard about people nicking the cutouts.
"It's flattering and it made my wife chuckle. I don't think I'm a sex symbol. No one really comes on to me when they see me.
"They stop for a nice chat because they feel like they know me. I also feel like I know them. Although, I have been sent a bra in the post."
Alan has released 11 books in the series and four more are to follow in the spring.
He added: "I wanted to do something that was more specific. There's something for everyone with these books."
Seeing double: Alan Titchmarsh grabs his cardboard cutout for a quick getaway from a B&Q store in Birmingham.
