Customs-NAIA, PDEA intercept P5.5-M worth of illegal drugs, marijuana.

Ecstasy and valium tablets, and high grade marijuana kush with total worth of about P5.5 million were presented to the media of Bureau Of Customs (BOC) after these were seized at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC).

NAIA customs district collector Mimel Talusan, in cooperation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), confiscated a total of 1,490 tablets of ecstasy, 3,320 tablets of valium, and 1,850 grams of high grade marijuana declared as "gifts, letters, and snacks".

Talusan said the outbound parcels declared as gifts and letters, containing the ecstasy and valium tablets were bound for the United States, Australia, Abu Dhabi, Germany, Saudi Arabia, France, Sweden, Spain, and the United Kingdom. They were reportedly sent by four shippers from Paranaque City and Bulacan with 36 consignees.

Talusan also said the claimant of the package containing the kush was apprehended and will befacing charges before the Paranaque Prosecutors Office for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 in relation to RA 10863, or the Customs Modernization Tariff Act.

He added that BOC NAIA was committed to be always vigilant in protecting the borders from the entry and exit of illegal goods.

Importation of dangerous drugs is punishable by a penalty of life imprisonment and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10,000,000.
