CHANTILLY, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 2001

Cryptek Secure Communications, a provider of trusted access management systems for protecting high-value corporate information assets, has appointed William Franklin executive vice president/commercial sales & marketing. Mr. Franklin reports to David Gross, CEO and will spearhead the launch of Cryptek's end-to-end network security solution into the commercial market.

Mr. Franklin joins Cryptek from Veritect, Inc., a Reston, Virginia information security services provider, where he was senior vice president of sales, marketing and business development. At Veritect, he set overall corporate and product line strategy, built the marketing and sales teams and led the company through a period of significant growth.

Prior to joining Veritect, Mr. Franklin was corporate vice president of services at AXENT Technologies, Inc., a Rockville, Maryland information security software vendor. At AXENT, his duties included pre-sales support, customer training, consulting and implementation, production and licensing, worldwide customer support and maintenance contracts.

"Bill Franklin is a recognized leader and team builder in the information security field. His knowledge of technology and the commercial market, combined with his leadership abilities, will be invaluable to us in building our market among enterprise customers," said Mr. Gross.

"I am excited to be a part of Cryptek as it launches its information security solution into the commercial marketplace," said Mr. Franklin. "Many security vendors today offer point products to address the various threats and vulnerabilities that exist, but effective information protection requires a system approach designed from the inside out, and that is what Cryptek has developed and improved over the last 15 years."

Mr. Franklin began his career as a U.S. Navy data systems technician and subsequently held positions at Astea International and Computervision Services/Prime Computer. He earned a BA in Business/Economics from Immaculata College, Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the College of William and Mary, Virginia.
