Crown Trucks for Delhaize.
With their previous trucks it was necessary to change the batteries three times a day but, by using Crown trucks, their productivity has greatly improved.
Installed at their central distribution complex in Zellik, near Brussels, these 24-volt battery powered machines operate a non stop 14-hour working day, and their batteries are recharged overnight to be ready for work the next day.
Once picked, by using the two-tonne GPC machines, orders for the individual supermarkets are loaded directly on to distribution vehicles. On average, they reckon output levels are in the region of 3200 pallet loads every working day.
With many goods being ordered and despatched the same day, speed is essential, and the GPC low level pickers are equipped with a multi-task control handle that allows all operations to be carried out at the press of a button.
Delhaize also operate a fleet of 125 Crown ESR reach trucks at Zellik, which were also supplied by Crown Lift Reach Trucks Ltd, tel:0118-979 8700. The main task for these trucks is the daily put-away into storage of around 3000 incoming pallet loads from suppliers, as well as the replenishment of the low level picking faces.
