Crook who duped stars escapes jail.

A CONMAN who stole from a charity for dying kids after pretending he had terminal cancer has been spared jail.

Simon Mitchell, 44, talked Katie Price and other stars into making charity appearances for Donna's Dream House, claiming his "dying" wish was to help sick kids.

But the former PR man from Blackpool failed to return a laptop and phone to the charity once they realised he was a fake.

Mitchell, who previously admitted theft of the laptop and phone, got a 16-week suspended jail term at Preston crown court where Judge Christopher Cornwall called him "despicable".
