Crime time.

New series NEW TRICKS Mon BBC1 9pm This is the crime show that has solved one major mystery - how to create a major TV hit.

Now in its eighth series, the show follows four elder statesmen of crime fighting who re-open old cases when new evidence arrives. They are played - as ever - by Amanda Redman, Dennis Waterman, Alun Armstrong and James Bolam.

In the opener, they look into the suspicious death of Dr Bernard Fletcher, an outspoken palaeontologist at the Natural History Museum. Could his damning dossier on Mondial Fuels have put him at risk? Or could his death be linked to an affair with a colleague? It's not all work and no play for the sleuths, though. They have a fine time investigating among the dinosaurs at the museum, and Standing (Waterman) even makes a discovery that could bring him a small fortune.

Over the 10-part series look out for guest stars including Sheila Hancock, Paul McGann and, in week one, Natasha Little.

There is no need to teach these old dogs new tricks - they're obviously doing something right.
