Cricket: READ: I'VE EARNED ONE-DAY PLACE.
CHRIS READ last night begged the England selectors not to ruin his international career by dumping him from the one-day side.
The Nottinghamshire wicketkeeper, axed from the Test team in favour of Geraint Jones after the tour of the West Indies, will find out today if he retains his limited-overs spot.
Read's batting cost him his Test place but he played two important one-day knocks against the West Indies.
He believes he has earned a place for this summer's NatWest triangular series against New Zealand and the Windies. Read said: "I would feel hard done-by if I was left out of the one-day squad.
"My record is good. I have been consistent for a year or so now and I think I deserve to be in."
Darren Gough is set to be retained in the one-day squad with in-form Kent batsman Robert Key coming in.
PROBABLE SQUAD: Vaughan, Trescothick, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Blackwell, Key, Clarke, Batty, Read or Jones, Anderson, Gough, Harmison, Kirtley.
