Cricket: CHAMPS HOLD ON TO TITLE; Weather puts paid to challenge as holders ease through MSV MIDWEEK CRICKET LEAGUE.

THE weather had its final say in the title chase when Jap Parts game was called off while ACS had a comfortable seven wicket win over GV Decorators to retain the league title.

N Russell (61) and C Simpson (36) set up a good platform as GV reached 119-4 but D Conway (32) and A Ramzan (31) saw ACS home on 120-3.

In the other A division game played, Billingham Balti House were condemned to relegation when they lost at home to Chand Xl.

C Sheperd (55no) was mainly responsible for Balti House's score of 111-6. Chand Xl batted steadily to reach 115-6 in reply.

In B division, Balti Hut won the battle for second place when they beat Station Hotel by 48 runs. Shafique (33) and Yousaf (42) set up Balti Hut's 138 for 7. Station Hotel were all out for 90 in reply.

Acklam Grange sealed the C Division with a three wicket win over BASF. BASF reached 95-7 batting first before M.Cooper (30) set up Acklam's 96-7 in reply.

Three Horse Shoes were condemned to bottom spot when they lost at home by 11 runs to Nunthorpe Merlin. S Siddaway (40no) set up Merlin's total of 90-6. Tight bowling from all four bowlers then restricted Three Horse Shoes to 79-5.

In D Division, the battle for second place was fought out between All Stars and Lloyds TSB. All Stars reached 107-8, Masood taking 4-20. In reply, G Edwards (50) set up the chase but M Ahmed (4-27) kept removing his partners as Lloyds were all out for 84.

In the other game played Cpt Cook Brewery chalked up their second victory of the season when they restricted The Swan, Billingham to 67-7 when chasing a total of 97-8.

In E Division Imran took 4-9 as On Time 35-1 beat Cleveland Cable who struggled to 33.

The second cup semi final saw JMG Marton accumulate 145-3 at home to Yarm.

A Wardell (32), D Trodden (52) and M.Croft (31) set up Marton's total before Wardell (3-38) and Croft (4-32) reduced Yarm to 139-8.

Final placings:

Div A: ACS 43, Jap Parts UK 41, McKenna 35, Chand Xl 35, MSV 22, GV Decorators 20, Billingham Balti House 18, Pot & Glass 14.

Div B: JMG Marton 36, Balti Hut 29, Stafford Place 24, Station Hotel 22, Winning Post 22, Yarm 19, Tall Trees 18.

Div C: Acklam Gr 42, Stockton 36, Hutton Rudby 30, University of Teesside 26, Hemlington Soc Club 26, BASF 22, Nunthorpe Merlin 16, Three Horse Shoes 14.

Div D: Specsavers Stockton 44, All Stars 32, Lloyds TSB 28, Skelton Castle 26, Dormans 26, The Swan 24, Corus SSC 20, Cpt Cook Brewery 20.

Div E: Wolviston 34, Moorsholm 34, On Time 29, Isaac Wilson 28, ONE CC 25, Cleveland Cable 24, New Marske 16, Gt Broughton 14, Shaws 10, Rimswell 8.
