Cricket: Bowlers Taylor-made for Alistair; MERSEYSIDE COMPETITION.

BIG hitting Alistair Taylor gave top-of-the-table Prestatyn every chance of finishing with a bagful of vital points as he cracked a masterly 93 in the seasiders Bromborough Paints Merseyside competition Division One game at second-from-bottom Liverpool Manweb. Forced to make two changes when experienced South African ace Morne Williams and valuable young all-rounder Hayden Williams had to pull out due late on due to work commitments, Prestatyn skipper Steve Giblin won an important toss as he returned to lead the side after missingSunday's Lever Cup final triumph over Whitefield.

Giblin wisely opted to bat and then left it to powerhouse Taylor and partner Russell Walker (44) to lay into the suffering Manweb attack, blasting the focussed visitors a distant 217-6 before declaring half-an-hour before tea.

There was still enough time for Springbok overseas professional pace bowler Jan Van Wyk to strike twice, grabbing 2-10 in another blistering show of speed and fire as he swiftly reduced the struggling hosts to 22-2 in his last away appearance for title hopefuls Prestatyn.

Star turn Van Wyk flies back to South Africa after next week's crucial home game against championship rivals Moorfield, so will miss the critical last three fixtures of the season.

Back at their home ground, Prestatyn Seconds were not having such a comfortable passage in their game against third from top Liverpool NALGO, who posted a testing 202-6 declared and then reduced Prestatyn to 32-2.
