Cricket: Battling Cook is hot stuff; NATIONAL CRICKET LEAGUES ROUND UP SOUTH WALES ASSOCIATION.

IN the fight for the title and promotion, leaders

Mumbles marched to a nine-wicket win at Skewen in Division Two of the Andrew Knox Limited South Wales Association.

Skewen were soon in trouble against a lively attack and lost their first five wickets with only 15 runs on the board, before a defiant 37 from Chris Cook lifted his team to 90 all out. The damage was inflicted by Gloucestershire right-arm seamer Mark Hardinges, who returned figures of 6-30.

The task of knocking off the runs proved simple enough for Mumbles with Lee Thomas (52) smashing a superb half-century. He received good support from Tim Hemp (29no).

Second placed Dafen kept the pressure on the leaders with an equally comfortable ten-wicket win against Cly-dach, who collapsed to 107 all out.

Dafen knocked off the runs through an unbroken century partnership involving Matthew Evans (52no) and Mel Williams (50no). In the game between third and fourth in the table, Ynystawe rattled up a healthy 220-7 against Carmarthen Wanderers.

Rowan Evans (87) led the onslaught with a brisk half-century, and he received excellent support from Shaun Jenkins (46), Andrew Beasley (33) and Gareth Bishop (24).
