Credit Union on the move.

A COVENTRY Credit Union is hoping a move to a more central city centre venue will boost its membership.

New Central Credit Union which was based in City Arcade is opening in Smithford Way - opposite Debenhams - after receiving support from Coventry City Council.

Credit Unions are rapidly growing as they encourage people to get into the habit of saving and the New Central Credit Union is no dierent.

e council is supporting the move as part of its eorts to work with partner agencies across the city to mitigate the eects of welfare reform and to steer people away from relying on pay day loans.

New Central Credit Union is a member run organisation which oers loans starting from PS100 - PS7,500. e Credit Union has around 1,500 adult members and 900 junior members.

e organisation relies on 18 volunteers but is always keen to recruit more. e council is helping to subsidise the move and will be looking at ways to help the organisation expand.
