Creche grant cut slammed.

Byline: JENNY McQUAILE

THE Government was slammed yesterday over its decision to scrap grants for mothers wanting to go back to college.

Health boards received instructions last December to stop paying creche supplements to parents who have returned to full-time education.

And about 200 parents in Galway have now been told that the creche payment will be withdrawn from the start of next term.

Fine Gael Environment and Local Government spokesman Padraic McCormack said: "Many of them will have to abandon their education because of this cruel cutback by the Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Coughlan"

"I will be raising this matter in the Dail with Minister Coughlan."
