Creature comforts.

A HI-TECH vet hospital for large animals opened its doors yesterday.

More than pounds 1.5million has been spent rebuilding the William Dick Large Animal Hospital in Roslin, Mid-Lothian.

Treadmills, spacious pens and a specially-built padded running track for horses are just some of the facilities on offer to animals attending the hospital at the Easter Bush Veterinary Centre.

Pregnant animals will have their progress checked by the same type of ultrasound equipment currently used on humans.

The hospital was officially opened by University of Edinburgh principal Professor Sir Stewart Sutherland.
