Crash blues for L-driver.

A LEARNER driver blamed the winter blues after taking her stepdad's Mercedes and crashing it into her mum's car.

Marti Redford, who is to start a St Andrews University psychology course, was seen reversing into her mother's Daihatsu before driving away in the damaged Mercedes.

Perth Sheriff Court heard she had stormed off after a row with her mum but accidentally put the Mercedes into reverse. Redford, 27, said: "It was a moment of madness. I just wanted to get away. I had been suffering depression. It is just in the winter time that it gets that bad."

The single mother of one, of Coupar Angus, Perthshire, admitted stealing a set of keys.

She also admitted driving away her stepdad's car, driving without a licence or insurance and failing to report the accident on January 5. She was banned from driving for a year and fined pounds 200.
