Crain to shutter "TVWeek" and launch "NewsPro ".

Crain Communications (Detroit, MI) will cease print publication of "TelevisionWeek" magazine in early June. It will become an online-only title and will spin-off "NewsPro," a "TelevisionWeek" supplement, as a stand-alone print magazine in August.

"TelevisionWeek" was launched in 1982 as "Electronic Media" and became "TelevisionWeek" in 2003. Crain said "this is clearly a new era for publishing, and we know we must adapt in order to serve our readers and advertisers." Currently, the title's web site reaches "far more readers" than its print magazine, Crain added.

"NewsPro" has been published as a supplement for ten years and will launch in August and will be published monthly for journalists, news managers and news executives at all media organizations, including print, broadcast and online.

Earlier, Crain ceased publication of "Automotive News Europe" (Munich), "Business Insurance

Europe" (London) and "RCR Wireless News" (Denver, CO).

"RCR Wireless News" was a monthly launched in 1981 and distributed to 50,000 subscribers. It was an "integrated media platform enabling all things wireless," Crain said. "Unfortunately, the market for the wireless industry has been hit particularly hard and we needed to direct our resources in other directions." "Automotive News Europe" was an English-language biweekly launched in 1996 for 19,000 subscribers. "Business Insurance Europe" was a biweekly pan-European magazine for 15,000 commercial insurance, risk management and alternative risk financing professionals.

The company has also closed financialweek.com, a news site for financial executives in U.S. companies whose accompanying print publication was closed in December. Crain has also cut five weeks of publication for both "New York Business" and "Chicago Business." Publication schedules for Crain's three other city business titles, including titles in Detroit, Cleveland and Manchester (UK), are under review.

Crain Communications is one of the largest privately owned business publishers in the U.S. and the company produces business, trade and consumer publications and related web sites in North America, Europe and Asia. Crain produces three other publications for the media/ advertising market, including "Advertising Age," "Creativity" and "BtoB," as well seven titles for the plastics/rubber category ("European Plastic News," "Plastics News," etc.), and magazines for six other markets, including "American Laundry News" and "Modern Healthcare," among others.
