Cracking the whip.

Byline: Nigel Nelson

YOU'VE got to hand it to MP Priti Patel. For a Tory she can be pretty tough on her own government.

She's doggedly examining David Cameron's Whitehall spending to sniff out embarrassing extravagance.

Priti's latest target is the hire of dinner jackets and dicky-bows for civil servants at public expense.

Most departments don't do it, don't know if they do it, or won't say if they do it.

Treasury solicitors remember PS75 for an outfit back in July 2008. But Priti struck gold with MoD brasshats. They spent PS3,000 on evening wear for 14 officials last year, PS2,500 in 2011 and PS3,000 in 2010.

Conspicuous Misconduct Medals for the lot of 'em.
