Cracking the whip; Nigel Nelson OUR MAN WEST MINISTER.

Byline: Nigel Nelson

AFTER the Las Vegas massacre the BBC interviewed a US gun shop owner about why he sold high-powered semi-automatic weapons.

He said that if his government had this stuff then the people must also have it to keep the government in check. That's off the Richter scale of bonkersness.

I'm surrounded at the Commons by police bristling with machine guns and sidearms. That's fine. They're trained sharpshooters. But if MPs demanded to be similarly tooled up I'd fear for my life. They can't even stop themselves shooting their mouths off.

It's the same argument. And why the Las Vegas murder spree will tragically not be America's last.
