LEBANON, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2002

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store(R), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of CBRL Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:CBRL), has captured the prestigious Platinum Award in the Family Dining category of the Restaurants and Institutions "Choice in Chains" awards for the 12th consecutive year. The Tennessee-based restaurant chain, known for its hearty country breakfasts and home cooked favorites like roast beef and country fried steak, received the award during the Restaurants and Institutions 22nd annual awards banquet held February 23rd at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.

"When an award of this magnitude comes our way, it's a direct reflection on our employees and the quality of work they do day in and day out to keep our customers coming back," said Donald M. Turner, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cracker Barrel. "But just as responsible for this honor are the customers who compliment us every time they stop by and join us for a meal, and we want them to know we appreciate them."

The award is based on a national consumer survey conducted by Restaurants and Institutions and NFO Research, Inc., a Greenwich, Connecticut based market research firm. This year almost 3,000 consumers participated, making it one of the largest consumer surveys of its kind. Customers were asked to evaluate the chain in seven areas: Food Quality, Menu Variety, Value, Service, Atmosphere, Cleanliness, and Convenience. Cracker Barrel received top marks in each of these areas.

Two employees who exemplify Cracker Barrel's high standards of excellence accepted the award on behalf of the company. They are restaurant server Christopher Scott and retail employee Trena Shead, both of Conyers, Georgia, who attended the awards dinner in Las Vegas. Scott told the audience, "It's not just one or two people who make this possible; it's almost 50,000 Cracker Barrel employees doing one simple thing, and that is serving customers the way they want to be served."
