Crackdown on incapacity benefits.

THE government is to target young Merseyside benefit claimants.

New figures show that in Merseyside more than one in 10 adults under 25 claims benefits, the second highest rate after parts of the north east.

The high numbers claiming incapacity at such a young age will be in the firing line.

New Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell is to strip them of payments if they fail job chances or dodge training schemes.

And private firms will be given the cash saved to set up work opportunities as part of a crackdown on benefit culture.
