Crackdown on Halloween rave revellers.

POLICE are preparing to crack down on gangs of revellers if they ignore warnings against Halloween rave parties in a Cheshire beauty spot tonight.

In the past more than 7,000 celebrated at Alderley Edge because of its association with withcraft.

They gather at the National Trust owned site where the wizard Merlin is reputed to guard the sleeping King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Until police cracked down, there were car thefts, break-ins, indecent assaults, burglary and criminal damage to homes. Now, after a series of campaigns by the police and the National Trust, the number attempting to gather in recent years has been cut to no more than several hundred.

Police have banned all parking round the area.
