Court hears murderer boasted of knife attack.
Homeless Mr Compton, 39, was repeatedly stabbed, set alight and then left to drown in a Warrington stream on May 27 last year.
Stephen Wood, 24, of no fixed abode, has admitted murder.
Co-accused Warrington men Phillip Hubbersty, 30, of Wilderspool Causeway, and Alan Warburton, 46, of Leicester Street, both deny murder. Chester Crown Court heard Wood bragged about attacking an unnamed man just hours after the assault and murder of Mr Compton.
Jamie Sutton, 21, said he had been with the trio, along with Hubbersty's girl friend Lesley Murphy, when Wood bragged about the incident.
Mr Sutton said the other friends were asked about the incident, but merely nodded and did not speak.
The court heard how police later recovered bloodstained clothes from Warburton's Leicester Street flat, where the friends had been gathered.
Police also seized a bloodstained wooden handled brush and a white handled mop stick. Under questioning from Tim Holroyd, defending Hubbersty, Mr Sutton said only Wood had bragged about the attack.
