Couple take the Leap on radio..
Byline: DAVID MAHER
AN Irish woman seized the day yesterday when she proposed to her boyfriend of more than six years on live radio.
The Leap Year tradition encouraging women to propose to men saw Valerie Sheehan from Co Carlow pop the question to her partner Ray Byrne live on KCLR radio.
She said: "We've been together for six years, and he's going to kill me.
"I love you with all my heart and you're an amazing dad, that's why I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
"That's why today, in front of everyone here, live on air in front of our parents, I'm asking you if you'll marry me."
Ray accepted and the proposal was met with applause and tears of joy from those in attendance.
Valerie added: "It was extremely nerve-wracking to propose on air.
"We've been together six years and we had been talking about it for a while. Everyone is delighted for us."
