ONE of the Rhondda's most popular pubs has reopened this week.

The New Inn in Ton Pentre opened its doors once more this weekend after a refit and revamp.

It was put up for sale in 2016 and had been closed for about six months, before it was refur-bished by new owners Dan Cox and his partner Jenna.

"Myself and Jenna both run businesses," said Dan. "Jenna has a gift shop, Just Divine, in Hannah Street, Porth, and I have my own electrical company - Allsparks Electrical.

"We have both been talking about having a joint business venture together for many years and have always wanted to get into the pub industry."

It appears pubs run in the family. "Jenna's grandparents kept the Market Tavern in Pentre in the 1950s," said Dan. "It's not there any more sadly. Jenna's grandfather who is now 94 is over the moon at being able to pull pints in his granddaughter's pub."

Dan said that when he saw the pub was up for sale he just had to act.

"When we saw that the New Inn was up for sale, we just knew that we could get the place back up to the standard that it once was was."

Then began an extensive refurbishment of the pub.

"The first thing we did when we had the keys was to rip up the sticky carpets and replaced it with new non-slip flooring. We have kept the interior decor, the wallpaper etc, for the time being as we wanted to get it back open as quick as possible."

He added: "A new heating system has gone in, the wood has been sanded back and varnished. The outside has been redecorated with a new sign and lighting.

"The beer garden has had new decking as the previous one was very slippery. There are also new stools and seating."

Dan said he's been pleased how the community has rallied around the pub.

"We have had great support from the locals and social media has gone wild with people supporting the reopening," he said.

"People are glad to see the pub reopening and not being turned into flats, which sadly seems to be happening a lot."
