Country star breaks record.

Thousands of fans braved the big freeze in a desperate scramble for tickets to see Country and Western star Garth Brooks.

Before Christmas a record-breaking 80,000 tickets were sold for his Irish tour in just 14 hours. And on Saturday another 40,000 tickets went on sale after a third date was fixed up and were snapped up within five hours.

Promoter Peter Aiken said last night: "What's astonishing is that Garth has no new record out at the moment. Something like this has never happened in Ireland before. He's breaking all previous records."

So far 120,000 fans will watch gigs at Dublin's Croke Park stadium on May 16, 17, and 18.
