Counter-checking system introduced to avoid slums re-occurrence in Capital.
ISLAMABAD -- The authorities in Capital, under an action plan devised for permanent removal of illegal slums, have established counter-checking mechanism to avoid their re-occurrence.
In first phase, illegal slums in green belt of Sector I-10/3, H-10/4 and H-10/1 were targeted and green belt of Sector I-10/3 and H-10/4 has been completely cleared.
The slum in Sector H-10/1 has been partially demolished because dwellers sought some time for voluntary vacation of state land.
According to Cabinet Division here on Sunday, the Plan has been devised in collaboration with Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICT) Administration and ICT Police for permanent removal of illegal slums in Islamabad.
In next phase, slums in Sector I-11/1 and I-11/4 have been targeted wherein massive mud structures of houses have been dismantled.
With regards to steps being, the Cabinet Division said these are deployment of dedicated teams with assignment of area of responsibilities to them, undertaking anti-encroachment drives on regular basis and awareness campaign through print media.
The authorities also demolished more than 2000 illegal structures during previous calendar year.
Under future strategy, it has been decided to enhance effective monitoring system through vigilance teams and formulation of a Quick Response Force comprising energetic officials for swift actions.
