Councillors lack common sense; Yousay IN YOUR OPINION...

HOW predictable that the Vale of Glamorgan Council - nay the council tax-payers - are now facing a huge bill of "tens of thousands of pounds" for the unsuccessful fight to prevent Coastal Oil and Gas of Bridgend test drilling at Llandow for exploitable gas reserves, if any ("Taxpayers' huge bill for fracking fight", August 29).

This follows on from another lost cause, where costs were also ordered against the same council, namely the abortive fight to stop a Sainsbury's store at Park Crescent, Barry.

Another huge financial bill incurred because all parties on the council (correct me if I'm wrong) voted against both proposals.

Now we, the council tax-payers, will ultimately pay for this either in "cuts" to other services or increased council tax bills.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense - you did not need to be a lawyer - would foresee these were two lost causes.

The councillors, past and present, who voted for these debacles should be personally surcharged.

They are voted into office to do what is best for the Vale and these outcomes are not in our interests.

If it is not the councillors who are surcharged, then how about the businesses and action groups who campaigned against their proposals? They should all be penalised, too.
