THE Kirklees Green leader is in the running to be second in command of the national party.

Clr Andrew Cooper has formally been validated as a candidate for deputy leadership of the Green Party.

The contest has been sparked after leader Natalie Bennett decided to stand down.

There are six candidates to be leader: Jonathan Bartley and Caroline Lucas (job share), Clive Lord, David Malone, Martie Warin and David Williams.

All paid-up Green Party members can vote and the result will be announced the Green Party's autumn conference in Birmingham in early September.
