Council spirits away fake booze.

CARDIFF council has won praise for a crackdown on watered-down alcohol.

Trading standards officers carried out 320 alcohol screen tests and took more than 30 spirit samples in the past year to combat "spirit fraud".

They swooped on pubs in response to complaints about watered-down and counterfeit booze.

And their work has been recognised by the International Federation of Spirit Producers, with a silver award at the annual Trading Standards conference.

Coun Judith Woodman said: "I'm delighted that the work of Cardiff trading standards in combating spirit fraud has been recognised."
