Council secures pounds 4m digital aid.

* CARDIFF council is among 10 local authorities allocated a total of pounds 4m to fund digital schemes to help councils deal with the impact of cuts in housing benefit.

Campaigners have warned that thousands of private tenants could be forced out of their homes by changes, including caps on housing benefit payments introduced in April.

Cardiff council's winning bid, announced today, will see the launch of a website offering information and support to anyone affected by the changes in Wales.

Welfare Minister Lord Freud said: "It's absolutely vital that we take urgent steps to manage housing benefit expenditure, which has been spiralling out of control for more than a decade."
