Council planners should visit us in the real world.
ONCE again the council tax payers of Kirklees witness another multi-million-pound scheme to presumably persuade us all that they know what they are doing with our money.
Following the still awaited 'wonderland' scenarios of Kirklees 2, Waterfront, HD1, and other futile examples of regeneration, we see unveiled PS250m worth of questionable town centre cosmetics, quickly followed by some fanciful mega hotel project.
When exactly do the dreamers in planning, repeatedly trying to justify their existence and pensions, ably supported by malleable, out-of-touch councillors, start living in the same world as the rest of us? Sorry, Kirklees councillors and professional officers need to get out and about in our localities and assess the actual situations that years of incompetence have created.
If payment by results was criteria for retaining employment or political office, some would have gone long ago.
However, to be fair, it has to be acknowledged that local standards are simply mirroring those which have become so dramatically obvious at national level.
