Council needs to be more transparent.
LABOUR councillor John Clancy must be a determined character to have made five attempts to win the Labour group leadership.
Having no time for his predecessor Sir Albert Bore and his autocratic management style, I sincerely wish Mr Clancy every success in his new role of Leader of Birmingham City Council.
However, I note one of his priorities is to offer a more "open and transparent council".
Far from being facetious, it crossed my mind if this "open and transparent council" is the mark 2 version? Sir Albert went to great lengths to go down the route of 'openness and transparency' but failed.
Whether he failed because he never understood his own words, or failed to notify all the staff within the Council House, is a matter of conjecture.
That said, I am sure Mr Clancy is aware that people are more important than bricks and mortar, and there is more to Birmingham than the city centre.
Bricks and mortar can be replaced. I hope he drums into the heads of departments and, in particular, some of the cabinet members to be more proactive, helpful and forthcoming over a whole host of problems currently affecting the city at this present time.
