Council gets tough on litter.

ADDITIONAL sweeping patrols and community clean-up events are being introduced on North Tyneside.

Two extra street sweepers have been added to North Tyneside Council's fleet, taking the total up to 17.

Operating from October 14 to December 6, the cleaning vehicles will reduce the amount of fallen leaves and litter on the borough's roads and pavements.

Businesses, voluntary groups, schools and the wider community can join in with a number of council-led clean-ups or organise their own with help from the authority.

For more information about clean-up events, call 0345 2000 103.

The council will provide litter pickers, gloves, bags and take away any rubbish collected.
