Council gets first female leader.

CEREDIGION County Council yesterday elected its first-ever woman leader.

Councillor Ellen ap Gwynn will lead a new four-party coalition to control the council, which includes the Plaid Cymru group, the largest grouping with 19 councillors, the Independent group (12), the Independent Voice group (2) and the Labour Party.

The Liberal Democrats will form the opposition group, with seven councillors and one non-group member.

The Council also voted to appoint Cllr Mark Cole as chairman-elect of Ceredigion county council and Cllr John Adams-Lewis as vice chairman-elect.

Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn is the first woman to lead Ceredigion and her appointment comes a year after the council elected its first female Chair.

Born in Scotland but brought up in Borth-y-gest near Porthmadog, Ellen is married to Iolo, and they have three children and four grandchildren.
