Council build 1,000 homes.

THE biggest new build of council houses in Scotland in 30 years has been announced.

Midlothian council plans to spend pounds 105million on building 1,000 new homes in Dalkeith.

The properties will include flats, and two, three and four-bedroom houses for tenants.

The move follows a shortage of council housing stock as more tenants have opted to buy their homes in the last few years.

There has also been a rise in the popularity of the area - a recent survey revealed Dalkeith topped the property market list with the average cost of a house at pounds 192,000.
