Council boss claims pounds 48k; NEWSBRIEF.

THE Tory leader of Vale of Glamorgan council, Gordon Kemp, claimed pounds 48,818 in allowances in the 2009/10 financial year, according to figures just published.

Coun Kemp claimed the basic allowance of pounds 13,356 and a responsibility allowance of pounds 35,462. Each of the council's 46 members are entitled to claim the basic allowance along with various other expenses. Cabinet members can claim a responsibility allowance of pounds 17,731.

The total amount claimed by the councillors for the period was pounds 947,087.
