Costa Brava nearly at capacity: reports.

BEIRUT: Two observers warned that the Costa Brava landfill south of Beirut would soon be unable to absorb further waste. "Today, almost two years after the establishment of the landfill, we raise our voices and declare to all through our statement that the status of the landfill has become intolerable, especially in terms of its inability to absorb the quantities of waste sent daily, and it will not last more than four or five months," Hisham Mousharafieh and Hisham Rishani said in a statement carried by the state-run National News Agency. Mousharafieh and Rishani have reportedly been writing updates on the landfill's status for the Council for Development and Reconstruction since the opening of the site in 2016. Their statement urged the government and stakeholders to take immediate action to prevent a forthcoming waste crisis. Situated south of Beirut airport, Costa Brava made headlines in January when a departing plane hit a bird while taking off.
