Corsair Announces New Release of Wireless Prepaid Billing System.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1999--

Corsair Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:CAIR) today announced the general availability and deployment of release 5.5.8 of the PrePay(TM) wireless prepaid billing system for Ericsson TDMA infrastructure.

The new software provides substantially higher performance, improved server efficiency, and increased throughput and scalability for cellular operators implementing new prepaid subscriber billing systems.

"Today our PrePay wireless billing system is supporting more than six million prepaid subscribers on Ericsson networks on two continents," said Tom Meyer, Corsair Communications president and chief executive officer. "This new version has over ten times the throughput of our previous system, and is more scalable and cost-effective than traditional voice-trunk-based configurations."

The Corsair PrePay billing system is based upon the emerging Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) standards and uses IS41c messaging and SS7 signaling to set up and route wireless prepaid calls without the need for an adjunct switch. Subscribers notice that call setup takes place without delay, while carriers can implement their prepaid service offerings without using dedicated handsets, service bureaus or hardware-intensive voice-trunk-based systems.

"Corsair and Ericsson have been working together to deliver industry-leading prepaid solutions for over one year," said Tony Cooper, director of TDMA/CDMA prepaid products for Ericsson Radio Systems AB. "Through our alliance with Corsair, Ericsson's customers can gain the scalability and performance benefits of emerging standards for their high-growth prepaid markets."

The key attributes of the new major release of the PrePay(TM) system include demonstrated scalability in high-growth prepaid markets, improved throughput, and industry-standard database and server technology from Oracle and Sun Microsystems. The system is extremely flexible, supporting multiple rating plans and tax structures, as well as offering a subscriber interface through an interactive voice response system.

Corsair's engineering team, building upon years of experience in delivering mission-critical systems to the wireless industry, has made extensive performance enhancements in the billing system, as well as incorporating features requested by Ericsson's global customer base.

"Our engineering and operations teams in Palo Alto and Irvine, California have hundreds of man-years of experience developing, delivering, and supporting wireless solutions," said Ulrich Wiedman, director of system software at Corsair. "These development and support individuals are why our new software delivers more performance and reliability for our customers, and we are increasing our investment in new development to ensure that we maintain our leadership position within the industry."
