Corps call for overseas volunteers; CRISIS.

Byline: SARAH STACK

A RECRUITMENT drive was launched yesterday for skilled volunteers to be deployed to humanitarian crises around the world.

Engineers, public health and logistic experts are among the careers needed by the Rapid Response Corps.

Peter Power, Minister of state for overseas development, said there have been 67 RRC deployments to 23 countries since the scheme was launched in 2007.

He added: "Corps members are making a valuable contribution to saving lives and rebuilding the livelihoods of people affected by emergencies around the world. "These volunteers are making a crucial contribution to the international recovery effort [of Haiti] and working hard to respond to the needs of those affected."
