Industry: Software development and publishing

Company description: Interactive Magic is a multimedia software company which is based in RTP, near Raleigh/Durham, N.C. I-Magic designs, develops and publishes entertainment software for CD-ROM and Online Networks.

I-Magic is starting its second year in 1996 after clearing $7 million in sales the first year. We currently have 4 games on the market: Apache, a helicopter combat simulation, Capitalism, the strategy game of wealth and power, Star Rangers, the intergalactic combat flight simulator, and Exploration, a game of strategy and world conquest. I-Magic will release at least 8 more strategy and flight simulation games in 1996.

Our current success is due in large part to our leader and Chairman "Wild Bill" Stealey, who is one of the founding fathers of the computer game industry. In the early '80's, Bill started MicroProse with $1500; when he retired a decade later the company was worth $47 million. He came out of retirement to lead I-Magic.
