Coretronic's backlight production lines busy until year-end.

Taipei, Oct. 5, 2012 (CENS) -- Driven by increasing demand for LCD TV backlighting modules, as well as from Apple's iPad and iPad mini, Coretronic Corp.'s production lines will be booked throughout the fourth quarter, industry sources said.

Demand for large-sized backlighting modules for LCD TV is intensifying in conjunction with the coming of the year-end high season. Coretronic recently won LCD TV backlight orders from Korean vendor Samsung for 150,000 modules per month, as well as from Chinese home-appliance brand Hisense, also for 150,000 units per month.

Backlight demand for tablet PCs and Ultrabooks also drives Coretronic's backlight sales, resulting in the maker having begun shipping about 1.6 million backlight modules per month to Samsung for Apple's new iPads.

Coretronic also shipped iPad backlight modules to LG Display, another panel supplier to Apple, as well as Sharp of Japan.

Major panel supplier AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) of Taiwan placed most of its backlighting orders for the iPad mini to Coretronic, with some going to LG Display of Korea, with Coretronic shipping more than three million backlight modules to iPad mini panel suppliers per month.

Coretronic also ship backlighting modules to Ultrabook panel suppliers' factories in China, including AUO in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, Chimei Innolux Corp. (CMI) in Ningbo, Jiangsu province, Samsung in Shanghai and LG Display in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, to assemble super-slim notebook PCs.

The company's senior executives said this year Coretronic's shipments of backlight modules for tablet PCs and notebook PCs will grow at least 50%.
