Cops say use tags to decongest expressway.

THE GURGAON police have asked the concessioner of the Delhi- Gurgaon expressway to introduce schemes to encourage the commuters to use tags for paying toll.

The police have conveyed several suggestions to increase the use of tags to senior officials of Delhi- Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited ( DGSCL). According to the figure provided by the company, the number of tag users in 2008 was 77, 940 and it increased to just 87,006 ( cummulative) in 2009.

" We have been getting negative feedback from quite some time. The first step is to reduce the amount which the company takes from the commuters. At present, it is charging Rs 1,500 for the device which should cost Rs 100," said S. S. Deswal, police commissioner of Gurgaon.

However, DGSCL spokesperson said, " The company has to import the devices from abroad and the acquisition cost of the same is about Rs 1,500," he said.

" Commuters will be interested to buy the tag if the refundable fee will be less," said Alok Mittal, joint commissioner of police, Gurgaon.

" We are also planning an exercise to facilitate tag subscription by offering additional locations where flexismart and the monthly pass schemes can be subscribed to," the DGSCL spokesperson said. The police want the tag validity to be increased.

" The commuters on the Flexismart plan can have extended validity. The monthly pass will have validity for 30 days or 60 trips," the spokesperson added.
