Cops probe murder bid during gala day.


A BRUTAL attack on a 22-year-old man at a gala day is being treated by police as attempted murder.

The victim suffered a serious wound to his chest when a man attacked him with a weapon.

It happened during gala day celebrations at about 5pm on Saturday in Whitburn, West Lothian.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in Union Road to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Graham Garvie said: "This was a vicious attack on a young man who has sustained serious injuries.

"We are eager to trace the man responsible as soon as possible.

"We know that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the attack and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened."

The 22-year-old victim was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he was treated for a serious chest injury.

The suspect is a white male aged 18 to 25. He is of medium build, about 5ft 10in with short brown hair and wore a dark jacket.
