Cops probe Allen abuse allegations; FOOTBALL.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Police are looking into an incident which has resulted in Cheltenham manager Martin Allen being placed on gardening leave by the club.

Allen is at the centre of allegations he racially abused a bouncer at a Cheltenham nightclub.

It is unclear what will happen to his position at the League Two club as the board of directors investigate the alleged incident, with assistant manager John Schofield placed in temporary charge.

A police statement read: "We did not receive any reports of this particular incident on the night it is alleged to have taken place and have not received any reports since. However, due to the nature of the allegations now being reported in the media we have taken the decision to look into it further.

Allen, a former West Ham player, took over at Cheltenham in September last year.
