Cops close in on mole behind US docs leak.
THE mole who leaked confidential memos from Britain's US ambassador has been identified, according to reports.
British officials launched an inquiry to find the person responsible for the cache of explosive emails which revealed how US president Donald Trump abandoned the Iran nuclear deal in an "act of diplomatic vandalism" to spite his predecessor Barack Obama.
It's understood Scotland Yard and Britain's intelligence services believe a civil servant who had access to historic Foreign Office files is the source of the leak.
Suggestions that it could be the result of a computer hack by a foreign state have been ruled out.
An unnamed Government source said yesterday: "It was someone with access to historical files.
"They went in and grabbed a range of material. It was quite crude."
Sir Kim Darroch, who called Trump "inept" in a document, resigned after Tory leadership frontrunner Johnson failed to back him.
Meanwhile, a US ambassador has backed Darroch's assessment of Donald Trump.
Bruce Heyman, a former US ambassador to Canada, said Sir Kim's criticisms were "the most accurate assessment" of Trump's diplomatic strategy.
He went further, tweeting that Trump had "vandalised" other world agreements including the Paris climate accord.
RESIGNED Sir Kim Darroch
