Coppell chases Pearce.

Crystal Palace have opened talks with Blackburn for defender Ian Pearce after failing with a late bid for David Unsworth.

Rovers boss Roy Hodgson is prepared to let Pearce leave as part of his Ewood Park clear-out.

And Palace are ready to pay up to pounds 1.2million for the former Chelsea centre-half.

Palace boss Steve Coppell launched a shock pounds 1.5m bid for Unsworth on Tuesday night following defeat by Barnsley.

But Unsworth had already agreed terms with West Ham after Everton accepted a swap deal involving Danny Williamson.

Palace's latest move follows the pounds 2m signing of Neil Emblen from Wolves yesterday.

And Pearce would welcome the chance to move after failing to hold down a regular first-team place in his four seasons at Rovers.
